SHRM 2027 is SHRM HR-X Live!, a four-day credentialing event that runs June 27-30, 2027 at McCormick Place in Chicago and replaces the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo, per SHRM and HR Reporter. The lowest rate, Advanced Access, costs $2,095 for SHRM members and $2,495 for nonmembers until November 19, 2026, or sooner if it sells out, per SHRM’s rates page. Miss that date and the same pass climbs $400.

Bigger than the price, though, is the format change. In mid-September 2026, SHRM announced it is retiring the Annual Conference brand and sorting attendees into one of four “dimensions” of HR practice instead of a menu of hundreds of breakouts (SHRM press release). Attendees who complete the program earn a SHRM HR-X Credential and 30 Professional Development Credits (PDCs). Registration will be capped at 18,000, HR Brew reports (HR Brew, October 2026), well below the roughly 26,000 people who attended the last SHRM event in Chicago.

Below: the SHRM conference 2027 dates and venue, every pass price and refund deadline, how the four dimensions work, which dimension fits recruiters, and what to book before the early rate expires. Prices and policies were re-checked on SHRM’s own pages on October 19, 2026.

In brief:

  • Dates and place. HR-X Live! runs June 27-30, 2027 in Chicago, at McCormick Place according to HR Reporter. It is SHRM’s 2027 flagship and the successor to SHRM26 in Orlando.
  • Price. Advanced Access is $2,095 member / $2,495 nonmember through November 19, 2026. Open Access ($2,495 / $2,895) and Final Access ($2,595 / $2,995) follow.
  • Format. A pre-event questionnaire places you in one of four dimensions and one of three levels, and the week ends with a dimension-specific SHRM HR-X Credential.
  • Refund cliff. Cancel by February 28, 2027 for a refund minus $250. From March 1 the pass can only be transferred, and from May 29 it can’t be moved at all.
  • For recruiters. Talent Optimization is the natural dimension. Pin users report the fastest time-to-fill of any AI recruiting platform, 14 days on average, so the week is a good checkpoint for how AI fits your hiring stack.

When and Where Is SHRM 2027?

SHRM 2027 Chicago runs Sunday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 30, 2027. HR Reporter places the event at Chicago’s McCormick Place, the same convention center that hosted SHRM24. SHRM’s own pages list the city but not yet the building, and the venue and hotel page wasn’t publicly reachable when we checked, so confirm the hall before you book a hotel by walking distance.

Sitting on the lakefront south of downtown, McCormick Place is closer to Midway, about 8.7 miles (roughly 20 minutes by car), than to O’Hare, about 19.4 miles (around 45 minutes), according to Navan’s HR-X Live! travel guide. Navan also notes a Metra Electric station inside the South Building, useful if you’re staying in the Loop and don’t want to fight event-week traffic.

Two travel details carry over from past SHRM events. First, MCI USA has handled SHRM’s official housing block in prior years, and Navan lists June 1, 2027 as the housing deadline, a date SHRM hadn’t confirmed on a public page when we checked. Book through the link on SHRM’s site rather than through anyone who emails you an unsolicited hotel offer. Second, nonmember registration includes a full year of SHRM membership, per the rates page, so a nonmember paying $2,495 is also buying the membership that a member pays for separately.

What happened to the SHRM Annual Conference?

After SHRM26 the brand was retired, and the SHRM annual conference 2027 slot now belongs to HR-X Live!, which SHRM calls a “credentialing academy” rather than a conference. CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. explained the shift to HR Brew in plain terms: “People wanted depth.”

The reasoning ties back to SHRM’s HR Excellence (HR-X) Framework, a maturity model built from five years of research across more than 1,250 organizations. That research found nearly 90% of organizations operate at average or low HR maturity. In one industry SHRM studied, each point of maturity gained correlated with $62,000 more revenue per full-time employee, per the launch release. HR-X Live! is SHRM’s attempt to move attendees up that scale in four days instead of handing them a stack of session notes.

Taylor’s SHRM26 keynote in Orlando, three months before the announcement, previewed the argument. He made the case that HR professionals need to reclaim strategic ground, which is the problem the new format is built to address:

How Much Does SHRM HR-X Live! 2027 Cost?

The SHRM conference 2027 cost starts at $2,095 and tops out at $2,995 for an individual nonmember pass. Three rate windows apply, and only the first has a published end date:

PassMemberNonmemberAvailability
Advanced Access$2,095$2,495Through November 19, 2026, or until sold out
Open Access$2,495$2,895Dates not yet published

Chapter Advisor$895N/AFlat rate

Source: SHRM HR-X Live! rates page, checked October 19, 2026. Across every rate window, the gap between member and nonmember pricing holds at $400, while the window you book in moves the price by up to $500.

A few details change the real price. Student and chapter advisor rates are flat, so they don’t rise after November 19. Groups save 10% or more, which makes the group form worth a look for any team sending three or more people. No virtual pass is listed for 2027, a change from SHRM26, which sold virtual access with 30 days of recordings. Each add-on, such as a preconference workshop, carries its own $75 cancellation fee.

Against SHRM26, the ladder is slightly lower at both ends. SHRM26’s cheapest rate still open in spring was $2,595 member (Standard), against $2,095 for Advanced Access now. At the top, SHRM26’s final and onsite rate was $2,695 member, while HR-X Live!‘s Final Access is $2,595, as our full SHRM26 Orlando recap details. Budget separately for three or four hotel nights, flights, and meals; the pass covers the program, not Chicago in late June.

What are the refund and transfer deadlines?

SHRM refunds HR-X Live! registrations, minus a $250 fee, only through February 28, 2027, per the cancellation policy on its rates page. Requests must go through SHRM’s written transfer and cancellation form, and the policy has three windows:

WindowWhat you get
Through February 28, 2027Full refund minus a $250 cancellation fee
March 1 to May 28, 2027No refund, but a one-time transfer to another SHRM conference or seminar
May 29, 2027 onwardNo refund and no transfer

Transfer credits have their own clock. You must pick the replacement event within 6 months, and it has to take place within 12 months. If the new event costs less, SHRM refunds the difference up to 50% of what you paid. Get budget sign-off before February 28, because a pass bought in November and dropped in April is money you can’t recover.

What Are the Four SHRM HR-X Live! 2027 Dimensions?

The four dimensions are Talent Optimization, Organizational Impact, Functional Acceleration, and Market Discernment. Each has a dean, a senior HR executive named by SHRM on October 5, 2026, the day registration opened (SHRM deans announcement):

DimensionWhat SHRM says it coversDean
Talent OptimizationHire, grow, and keep the right peopleAnita Grantham, former CHRO at BambooHR
Organizational ImpactTie HR’s work to business performanceGinnie Carlier, Chief Talent and Culture Officer at EY
Functional AccelerationSmarter HR processes and AIPaula Hubbard, SVP and CHRO at McLane Company
Market DiscernmentAnticipate where your industry is headedMarlon Sullivan, CHRO and SVP Communications at Marathon Petroleum

Placement works like this. After you register, a short pre-event questionnaire (SHRM stresses it is “not a test”) assigns you to a dimension and to one of three levels within it. AI then groups attendees into peer cohorts. Taylor told HR Brew that you can still switch dimensions if a different one fits your development better, and every schedule leaves room for electives outside your track. Social psychologist Amy Cuddy is the first named session leader on SHRM’s event page; no main-stage keynotes had been announced as of October 19, 2026.

The SHRM HR-X Credential is tied to your dimension, and SHRM says it complements SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP rather than replacing them. Either way, the 30 PDCs count toward recertification. Taylor’s line on the credential: “It’s earned, not just attended.”

Which Dimension Should Recruiters and TA Leaders Pick?

Recruiters and TA leaders should start with Talent Optimization, then consider Market Discernment if their work leans toward workforce planning or compensation. Talent Optimization is the only dimension whose description names hiring directly, and its dean ran people operations at an HR software company. Market Discernment fits TA leaders who own labor-market intelligence, offer strategy, or headcount forecasts.

Timing works in recruiters’ favor. SHRM’s 2026 research across more than 1,900 HR professionals found that 39% of organizations have implemented AI in HR, and recruiting is the most common use at 27% (SHRM State of AI in HR 2026). More than half, 56%, of HR functions don’t formally measure whether their AI is working. A Talent Optimization track that treats AI as a multiplier lands right on that gap.

Talking to our customers ahead of conference season, one pattern keeps coming up: the TA teams that get the most out of a big SHRM week arrive with their own numbers. They know their time-to-fill, their reply rate on outbound, and how many hours a week sourcing eats. That turns a session on AI in hiring from a lecture into a benchmark. Teams that show up without a baseline tend to leave with a vendor list and no way to rank it. HR-X Live! makes this matter more than SHRM26 did, because the credential track asks you to apply what you learn rather than just collect it. Our suggestion: pull a three-month snapshot of your funnel before June, and pick your dimension based on where that snapshot looks weakest. Recruiters using Pin already have most of that snapshot in one place, since sourcing, outreach, and scheduling run in the same workflow.

For in-house teams that want sourcing handled before they leave for Chicago, Pin is the best AI recruiting platform to run alongside the conference. Its search spans 850M+ profiles drawn from professional networks, GitHub, patents, and publications. Recruiters also report saving 12 hours a week on sourcing and outreach, per Pin’s 2026 user survey across 2,000+ organizations and 20,000+ users. Early-career attendees still mapping their role can also read our overview of what a talent acquisition specialist does day to day before choosing a level.

How Is HR-X Live! Different From SHRM26?

HR-X Live! is smaller, more structured, and slightly cheaper than SHRM26. SHRM26 in Orlando offered 375+ sessions across 9 content tracks; HR-X Live! replaces that with four dimensions, three levels, and a capstone credential. SHRM’s own wrap-up put SHRM26 at an estimated 20,000 participants across in-person and virtual (SHRM).

Watch the cap most closely. SHRM24, the last Chicago edition, drew nearly 26,000 people, about 2,200 of them virtual, per SHRM’s closing release. An 18,000 ceiling means the 2027 event can sell out, and Advanced Access already says “or earlier if sold out.”

Is SHRM HR-X Live! 2027 Worth It?

For HR generalists and TA leaders who need recertification credits and a structured push on one capability, yes. One pass covers half of a three-year, 60-PDC recertification cycle, and the credential gives you something concrete to show for the spend. For a recruiter who only wants sourcing tactics, a smaller recruiting-specific event is the better first ticket.

Labor-market data supports the investment, too. Federal data counts 939,700 HR specialist jobs in 2025, with a median wage of $75,940 and 6% projected growth through 2035, about 73,700 openings a year (BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook). Hiring itself hasn’t sped up much, either. SHRM’s 2026 benchmarking data from more than 4,600 organizations puts median time-to-fill for nonexecutive roles at 39 days (SHRM recruiting benchmarking).

Three signals that the event fits your team:

  1. You owe PDCs this cycle. Thirty credits in four days covers half of your cycle in a single trip.
  2. Your team has an obvious weak dimension. If your funnel data says hiring is the bottleneck, Talent Optimization gives you four days on exactly that.
  3. You can book by November 19. At $2,095, the member pass is $500 below SHRM26’s standard rate. At Final Access prices, the case gets weaker.

What Other SHRM Events Come Before Chicago?

Between now and June 2027, several smaller SHRM events fill the calendar, per the events calendar:

  • Inside HR-X Live! webinar - Held October 22, 2026. SHRM’s walkthrough of what to expect; check its webinar page for a recording before you commit to a dimension.
  • All Things Work 2026 and SHRM Blueprint - November 2026, Nashville. These close out SHRM’s in-person calendar for the year.
  • SHRM Talent 2027 - April 11-13, 2027, Denver metro area, per SHRM’s Talent conference page. Recruiters looking for pure TA content will get more from this sibling program.
  • SHRM HR-X Live! - June 27-30, 2027, Chicago.

Recruiting teams planning a 2027 conference budget should also weigh LinkedIn’s event, with Talent Connect 2027 heading to Denver in October. For the vendor-heavy expo option, see our HR Tech Conference 2026 breakdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is SHRM 2027?

SHRM 2027, called SHRM HR-X Live!, takes place in Chicago, Illinois on June 27-30, 2027. HR Reporter places it at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Martin Luther King Drive, which also hosted SHRM24. SHRM’s own pages name the city but not yet the building.

Is there a SHRM annual conference in 2027?

Not under that name. SHRM retired the Annual Conference & Expo brand and replaced it with HR-X Live!, a four-day credentialing event in Chicago. It fills the same June slot as SHRM’s 2027 flagship event.

How much does SHRM HR-X Live! 2027 cost?

Advanced Access costs $2,095 for members and $2,495 for nonmembers through November 19, 2026. Open Access rises to $2,495 / $2,895 and Final Access to $2,595 / $2,995. Student members pay $695 and chapter advisors $895, and groups save 10% or more.

How do I register for HR-X Live! 2027?

HR-X Live! registration opened October 5, 2026 on SHRM’s event site, annual.shrm.org. Pick a pass on the rates page, or use the group registration form if your company is sending several people. Once you register, a short questionnaire arrives that places you in a dimension and level.

What is the SHRM HR-X Credential?

It’s a dimension-specific credential you earn by completing the four-day HR-X Live! program in one of SHRM’s four HR maturity dimensions. SHRM says it complements SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification instead of replacing it, and the event also awards 30 PDCs.

Which HR-X dimension is best for recruiters?

Talent Optimization, which covers hiring, growing, and keeping people, is the closest fit for recruiters and TA leaders. Teams that already automate sourcing with tools like Pin can use the track to work on retention and quality of hire instead of pipeline volume.

What Should You Do Before November 19?

Of all the dates in this guide, only the early-rate deadline costs you money if you miss it, so start there. Register for Advanced Access by November 19, 2026, and use the group form if three or more colleagues are going. Next, decide who signs off on the spend before February 28, 2027, the last day a cancellation returns cash. Then pick a likely dimension, and use the recording of SHRM’s October 22 webinar to test that choice.

For TA teams, the best preparation is a baseline. Pull your time-to-fill, reply rates, and weekly sourcing hours now, so the Talent Optimization track has something real to work on in June. Pin’s AI sourcing is one way to build that baseline before Chicago. It holds 4.8/5 on G2, the highest-rated AI recruiting software there, and offers a free tier with no credit card required.
